EMGirls Alumni
Julie Ma
Julie is currently studying Business Administration at the Beedie School of Business at SFU. Throughout her first year, she placed Top 3 in five case competitions and Finalist in one international capital markets stock pitch, making her first year challenging yet exhilarating. What Julie likes the most about the Beedie community is how supportive and kind everyone is, as well as how many opportunities for growth there are. As EMGirls’ previous Executive Director (2024-2025) and Director of Finance (2023-2024), Julie believes EMGirls set her up well for success in university and personal life.
Pavni Labade
Pavni Labade is a Business and Computer Science student at UBC and the 2024–25 Executive Director of EMGirls. Her experience with EMGirls was a highlight of her high school journey, where she got to learn from young girls and mentors in business and also take on the path of entrepreneurship herself. In high school, along with EMGirls, she actively contributed to her school and city communities, including founding a government-funded youth council that became the largest in Burnaby.
During her first year at UBC, Pavni has:
• Joined the Cansbridge Scholars program, one of Canada's biggest student builder communities, and learned from founders across the country
• Launched a chess education business that generated over $10,000 in revenue within its first five months and got the opportunity to network with the founder of Chess.com because of it
• Currently works as a Growth Intern at Althra, a Vancouver startup incubator, where she manages social media and outreach
In the future, she hopes to build a career and life for herself that she can wake up excited to look forward to every day, and also help other young girls find that for themselves as well.
